INFORMATION FOR THE TRAINEES IN THE SKATING SCHOOL LESSONS

You’ve chosen a wonderful hobby, congratulations! HSK offers you excellent opportunities to go in for this sports. We have skaters who practice for the fun of skating and those who aim at competitions.

GROUPS

The skaters are divided in age groups in the skating lessons: the ones under 7 years (not yet at school) and the ones over 7 years old. When children start skating lessons the trainers divide them into groups according to the skaters’ basic abilities and talents. They very carefully watch the skaters’ abilities and development during the lessons and they may shift a skater from one group to another to better suit his/her abilities

It is also possible to skate more often per week than just in the skating school. The parents are welcome to discuss such a wish with the coaches who regularly observe the training.

TRAINING

  • Be in time in the ice hall, so that you’ll have enough time to put on your skates and get ready for the ice
  • Please, don’t wear clothes with sand on them on ice.
  • Use shields on your blades when you walk in your skates. The sand from the outdoor footwear might damage your blades.
  • Dry your blades well after skating, they easily get rusted.
  • Don’t chew gum or candies on ice
  • Put your name on all your equipment
  • Always check you don’t leave behind any of your belongings when leaving the dressing room.

We wish that the parents and family members watch the training from the platform for spectators. This way the concentration of the skaters is improved.

THE EQUIPMENT

Clothing: When you dress for your skating lesson, choose flexible, comfortable, warm sportswear which is easy to train in, you need mobility. Take an extra sweater or cardigan to put on, if you get cold. Put on a woolly cap and gloves, the ice halls are often very chilly.

Skates: The design of the skating shoes is important for the feet in growth. They must give good footing and support to the ankle and proper blades make learning easier and more comfortable. Skates of good quality last long and can always be recycled.

The coaches and trainers will give any information you wish concerning skating or the equipment. Don’t hesitate to ask!

You’ll find skates and other equipment e.g. in Skate Shop, Kaupintie 10, 00440 Helsinki (Lassila), phone. 479 119.

FEES

The season fee depends on how many trainings the skater participates in a week. If there are two skaters from the same family the discount is 10 % from the lowest fee. To participate in the skating school the season fee must be paid.

INSURANCE

All the skaters in the skating school lessons are insured by HSK according to the rules of the Finnish Figure Skating Association. When the season fee has been paid, the insurance is valid. HSK needs the name, address and the social security number of the skater.

NOTE! TRAINING TIMES MAY VARY

There may be cancelling of the training because of other events in the ice halls. We try to notify everybody in time in the ice hall notice boards and the internet. If you’ve been absent, always check the time of the training with your trainer or in the internet.

If a skating lesson is cacelled, it can be made up for in any HSK skating school lesson during the following three weeks. Make sure there is a suitable group for you.

If a skater is absent from the lesson due to sickness, the lesson can be made up for in case the absence has been reported to the trainer.
